And a tender moment

Sophie came visiting teaching with me on Wednesday to Virginia Shrader's. Virginia is an older woman who is losing her eyesight. When we mentioned that Sophie was with us Virginia started to get emotional, "Well I just wish I could see her," she said. I tried to reassure her by saying that she could at least hold Sophie. Virginia protested and said that she could barely hold up her own hands and she would probably drop Sophie.

So on we went with the lesson. And Virginia continued to exclaim at every sound Sophie made. At one point she reached over to touch Sophie's foot and was just overcome. So when it got close to our departure I said to Virginia, "Before we go, you are going to hold this little baby, we'll make sure of it."

I held Sophie under Virginia's failing grasp, and Virginia was so happy. Then something unexpected happened. Rather than exclaiming to Dani or myself about Sophie's size or sweetness, Virginia looked right down at my little infant and sang "I am a Child of God." It was such a wonderful experience--like a little bit of heaven on earth. And Sophie brought so much joy into Virginia's life.

I only hope it is a preview of what else is to come.

The Kansas 5-Mile......HIKE? Wha?

Two weeks ago my stake presidency called me to ask if I would go to girls camp. It was really late notice, but "Sure thing!!!" Says I. Now it has come and gone and my feet are swollen and I am as tired as ever. Do I regret it? NO WAY! In fact I mentioned that they may want to order a baby size shirt for next year when I come with my baby again. (Only the baby will be out of my belly by then and would need a shirt.)

So almost 7 months pregnant and there I was: sleeping on the cold, hard, vicious ground, building campfires, slaving over hot camp stoves, and Hiking. Or rather strolling on some hilly terrain through the woods, and on the roads of Kansas for five miles. I did it! I didn't want to do it. I had every reason to opt out, but I also had a flaming desire to prove it to.....ummm.......whoever would care, that I could do it. AND I DID!

My head is full of camp songs, and I am finally home to do laundry and take off tomorrow for Ft. Lauderdale Florida! Yahoo.

Every Member

Last night after driving home from Omaha we met up with ten missionaries downtown to street contact by SINGING! It was an incredible. I thought to myself, "Why can't I be more like my husband who is the best example of member missionary work." He is always giving a book of Mormon to his lab mates, and he is not "ashamed of the gospel of Christ," (or to share that gospel, which is where I cower.) I have the greatest husband. And last night I grew to love him even more.

The ill effects of pregnancy: OR a new computer?

In the corner of the second bedroom in 933 Groveland St. lay a useless, preteen computer, Dellamort. It was brought to its useless life in the corner by its arch-nemesis I. MacBook Podder, a young, stalwart, brave, and fully equipped machine. Life on 933 Groveland St. has never been the same after Dellamort was nearly killed by I. MacBook Podder.

Dellamort sat with tears streaming from its keys as sounds of joy and laughter emanated from the front living room, praising the young Podder. "A Free I-Pod nano, and a Free printer?" Shreiked Debra with joy. "Open it up, Open it up." Then came more shouts of joy and laughter as Dellamort lay, collecting dust, never to be touched again with the wand-like hand of its old master.

"It even has a wireless internet connection, now we can use the internet at McDonalds, or wherever else we roam." Said TJ, the proud new owner of the machine-killing machine. "Oh wait, I think we even have a wireless connection here that isn't blocked by a password."

Thus was the beginning of a new age, an era of Internet at home, something Dellamort was never equipped to accomplish for its masters. And the owners couldn't be prouder of their greatest asset, I. MacBook Podder.

Not your typical REFEREE

Recess is a fun time of day when the students finally get a break from the boring brick walls surrounding them. It apparently is also a time of day when wrestling matches ensue. Or at least in one case:

There I was standing on the Basketball Court watching the third grade doubble dribble, travel, and BICKER. The ball was thrown out of play and the next thing I know there is a rough and tough kid barreling toward one of his fellow ball players. George* and Bob* apparently had a little disagreement over a foul, so George, shorter, but stronger turned into a bull about to gorge his matador. Bob tried to be reasonable and turned around to talk about the issue when he received a slap in the face.

Oh, boys will be boys.

Meanwhile I was screaming and running after the two to get them off one another. Did they pay me any heed? Of course not. Although I believe Bob was pretty tired of George's punches, yet my screaming and threatening for "green slips" was to no avail. I got closer and closer, and considered:

Should I really involve myself in this? What if they turned on me? I am in a delicate condition.

It took one final demand of "YOU TWO KNOCK IT OFF RIGHT NOW, INTO THE PRINCIPALS OFFICE...BOTH OF YOU NOW!" and George picked Bob right up off the ground a body slammed him onto the grass, then it was over.

It was quite the eventful recess and to top it off George did yell back to me some sort of obscenity that only made me chuckle, "I's sorry you feel that way. NOW GET IN THE OFFICE!!!"

Mean old Mrs. Bliss!

I'm sorry Blogger

It seems that I must apologize. I never knew life would get this busy, especially here in the good ol' state of Nebraska, "Home of the good life." Well, it all has been good. It's just gone a hundred miles an hour since I got here.

Most recently I've been traveling up to Omaha 4 times a week to assistant direct a teen theatre group called--YOUNG GIFTED AND BLACK. And it has been a treat. We've gone to church, singing "Amen," and we end each show with a little Soul Train, and "Oh Happy Day."

My life has changed drastically since I've moved away from the computer. I've become young gifted and black at heart. It's been theraputic. Really! And I've found a few other things to appreciate. I am sorry, really I am Blogger and Internet connections all together, but that's just the way it is. I am as busy as a bumble bee. I guess that's why the greek translation of my name is just that: Bee.
